Analysis Service Ports

SQL 2005 AS installed on a Cluster.
We are using a named instance and only one currently exists. MS White paper
reads: The default instance listens on port 2383, while named instances are
dynamically allocated. This behavior can be changed by explicitly assigning a
port to either the default or named instance of SSAS. If the value for Port
is 0, the default behavior described above is achieved. Otherwise, the value
is treated as an absolute (static) port number to use for the specified
instance.
I have modifed the Server PORT property, on the named instance (a default
instance does not exist) to listen on port 2382 and have added a rule to our
firewall to allow this traffic. However, AS continues to listen on port 2383.
Does anyone have any experience on this and how to change it.
Is there a range of ports I can tell our network team to open?
I am not sure on SQL 2005 but in SQL 2000 you need to start the service
again to take the effect of new port numbers...

An other DB copy Q:

Hello,
In an instance, I've two DBs: ABC y copyABC. I would like to update the
tables (and their contents added or removed) from ABC to copyABC twice a
day. For it will be using a Job but, what would be the syntax?
The idea is to get data for my reports from copyABC and creating my own
queries without disrupting the daily usage of ABC.
Would appreciate some directions.
Thank you
MarySSIS script or BulkCopy or SqlBulkCopy method. You might also consider

An instance of the SQL Server Reconciler error object cannot be created

I've got the following server configuration.

Database Server

- Windows 2003 Standard

- MSSQL 2000 sp4

Web Server

- Windows 2003 Standard

- SQL 2000 sp4 replication components

- SQL Mobile 2005 Server tools

The database server published out the snapshot to a share on the web server. This bit is working file, I can see the snapshot contents etc. When I connect from my own pc using SQL Management Studio and attempt to set up a subscription to a Mobile database, I get the following error.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

An instance of the SQL Server Reconciler error object cannot be created. Try reinstalling the replication components.
HRESULT 0x8007007E (28010)

I've also accessed the Url using diagnostics and get the following output:

Any suggestions? I've reinstalled the various components on the Web Server quite a few times by now...

thanks

Search for REPLERRX.DLL and register using regsvr32. And then try. If the registration fails for this DLL, just check whether you have all the dependant DLLs. There are tools to find out the dependant DLLs of a particular binary. Most probably you may need to have MSVCR71.DLL and MSVCP71.DLL. However these two DLLs are already packaged in the 'SQL Server 2000 SP4 Replication Components' setup package. There is some problem in the installation I believe. If you could register REPLERRX.DLL, then you should be able to sync.

An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'DLLName' that is not registered for this

Hello,

I've created my own data extension which uses ADODB.NET (OleDB Provider) and connects to the named SQL instance. During the development phase of the report I can connect to my data source, retrieve data from it and display it in the report preview with no problems. But as soon as I want to deploy this report and my data source I get the message: “An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'DLLName' that is not registered for this report server.". I went thru all *.config files and set up them up as per instructions how to. I can see my extension in the combo box during designing my report which tells me that this is done correctly. I can create the report in the preview as well. But whatever I do, when I want to deploy it I'm always getting this message.

I've come across one post where it says that Reporting Services are limited to the default, unnamed instance of SQL Server (local). I don't think it should matter to me in this case because I'm using my OleDB Provider to connect to the database. Report doesn't know anything about it. It gets data from my extension, not directly from the database. But I've tried switching from my named instance to (local) just to see if it is going to work, but no luck.

I'd appreciate somebody giving me some suggestions on this issue.

Thanks...

did you update rssrvpolicy.config to grant fulltrust to your extension? Usually this error message appears when report server gets an exception when loading the extension, and this usually happens when extension is not trusted or it fails in constructor. The fact that it works in report designer (which runs everything in fulltrust by default) most likely means that extension is not getting fulltrust when loaded on server.|||

Yes I did. Here is the code from the rssrvpolicy.config:

<CodeGroup class="UnionCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Name="MyCodeGroup" Description="Code group My data processing extension">

<IMembershipCondition class="UrlMembershipCondition" version="1" Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.4\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\My.dll"/>

</CodeGroup>

But it still doens't work. I still am getting the same message when I try to deploy my report.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks...

An additional SQL 2005 instance - How much extra resources does it consume ?

Dear all,
In order to migrate my existing SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005, I want to
install an additional SQL 2005 instance, how much extra computer resources,
eg. CPU, memory, ... will it consume ?
Do you have any ideal ?
Or where can I get this information ?
Please tell me if you know, thanks a lot.It depends on how much heavily you are gonna use it. I can at least say
that, every connection to SQL Server 2005 will consume 28KB if I'm
remembering correctly :)
Other stuff is environment-specific. How densely you use your databases,
your queries...

instance one by one, so you can see, there will be no change either in the
total no. of databases or database work load.
However, people can still agrue that the server has one more SQL 2005
instance, it might consume a certain amount of resources, so, I have to know
how much resources will the SQL 2005 instance consume.
Or where can I get this information ?
Please tell me if you know.

are migrating existing dbs on the same server you should have an idea
already. Two instances will always use more resources than a single instance
but how it breaks down will be different depends on many factors, none of
which we know anything about. Can't you just upgrade the 2000 instance to
2005 and keep the dbs that require it in 80 compatibility mode?
