An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server.

I have a distributed environment with SQL Server 2005 SP2 (RTM) running on one server. This server holds the databases for SharePoint and Reporting Services. I then have SharePoint 3.0 (32-bit version) with the reporting services add-in installed on a second server. I installed the sharepoint object model (64-bit version) on the database server as suggested and have configured Reporting Services to use domain user accounts. The Reporting Services configuration tool is reporting that integration has been successfully set up but I am unable to access the "Set Server Defaults" page without an error. This is the error I receive:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.

Please help.

Solaena,

I would suggest to take a look at the Report Server log files located on your Report Server machine in this location:

%Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.X\Reporting Services\LogFiles

Look for a log file whose name starts with ReportServerService and see what exception you find there.

After some digging I found an error message that led me to this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1282744&SiteID=1

I am now able to access the "Set Server Defaults" page but I am unable to open any reports and I can't add any reports to the web part. From what I can see I have two errors.

#1 - When adding a report to the web part I am denied access. Access is denied to my domain/user account. This account is a domain admin account.

#2 - NULL Reference exception at "...InternalFindObjectsNonRecursive."

Thanks,

Simone

Thanks to all for you insight.|||Just thought I would update everyone on this thread, we were finally able to get all of the integration working. To complete the process we needed to use Kerberos authentication and ensure that the browsers were all set up to enable windows authentication. With Kerberos it is important to be sure that SPNs are set up for the domain account used by the sharepoint and reporting service web services. When doing this, also make sure that duplicate SPNs are not inadvertently created. After two months of working to get this resolved I am thrilled to say we are up and running....|||

Hi Simone,

Did you have to create a SPN for just the MOSS site url or both the MOSS and reportserver url ?

both servers. also, there is one for just the server name and one for the fully qualified name.

An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing

Hi,

I am having MSRS 2000 Reports which is using subscription feature to email PDF format reports to user . I am able to get all the reports e-mailed as expected only this report is giving an errror in the status as "Failure sending mail: An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing". I can pull this report properly and also export it in PDF manually. The Report is a 15 page Report with few images. If I try to email only the link of the Report it works fine. Was wondering if anybody would have a clue about the same .

The Log files read as

Info: Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException:
An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing. > System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException:
Could not find a part of the path "F:\".

I dont know why it is going in F drive and failing.

cheers,

siaj

The more detailed log is :

It sounds like you have the feature enabled where we store temporary snapshots in the filesystem. Check this article:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157439(SQL.90).aspx

Make sure that the FileShareStorageLocation element is set to a path which actually exists. My guess is that it is not.

Did you ever get a solution? We're seeing the same error re: "AdjustTokenPrivileges"|||

    Not yet.
I've installed the SP1 and the HotFix2153. Even after this, I still have the same error.
It's very strange because the Microsoft's support asked me to do it, but it didn't work.
    Have you tried anything different?

    Hello everybody,

I am trying to use the reporting services on Windows 2003 with SQLServer 2005. Everything works fine in the report manager and I can access and render the reports without any problem. But when I try to access the reports directly with the URL from the ReportServer, I get the following error :

    Hi,

    First, thank you for answering.

Actually I haven't any <appsetings> in the ReportServer's web.config file. I have that in the ReportManager, which works fine, but not in the ReportServer.

Here is my web.config file for the Report Server :

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

This fix works assuming that the IIS virtual server that reporting services is installed on uses the same home directory as the Report Manager (in which case the ReportServer web.config inherits the settings from its parent).

    Hello everybody,

I am trying to use the reporting services on Windows 2003 with SQLServer 2005. Everything works fine in the report manager and I can access and render the reports without any problem. But when I try to access the reports directly with the URL from the ReportServer, I get the following error :

This fix works assuming that the IIS virtual server that reporting services is installed on uses the same home directory as the Report Manager (in which case the ReportServer web.config inherits the settings from its parent).

I've been sufferring from the following error for weeks:

I've reinstalled the SQL Server 2005 and the SP1 trying to solve this problem but it didn't work.

Is there anyone who can help me?

    Thanks since now

[edit] I just installed a few minutes ago the service pack 1 for SQL Server 2005 and Reporting services, but obviously it doesn't change anything to my problem. [/edit]

Have you added / defined a ReportViewerServerConnection key in the <appSettings> for ReportServer's web.config file?

If yes, can you remove it and try agan?

    thanx,
    Prash

    Hi,

    First, thank you for answering.

Actually I haven't any <appsetings> in the ReportServer's web.config file. I have that in the ReportManager, which works fine, but not in the ReportServer.

    Found a solution here

    http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_thread/thread/a22799e1a354ea79/9aca125282998795

This fix works assuming that the IIS virtual server that reporting services is installed on uses the same home directory as the Report Manager (in which case the ReportServer web.config inherits the settings from its parent).

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.

I have rs2005 installed. I created some reports through SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. I can preview reports fine in the studio. But after deploying it, on //localhost/reports, when I click the report, it takes a while to calculate and then give me error: "An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. "

The weird thing is if I restart report service, it will display report fine on the first time, then fail on the following attempts.

Here is what's in the log file SQLDUMPER_ERRORLOG.log

And was this problem ever resolved?

I hope so, since I am now getting it as well...

From what I can tell so far, it seems to only be happening for the reports that use the matrix output control.

Okay, so I don't know if this will help anyone else much except to let you know that the displayed error message (rsReportNotReady) and the errors reported in the log files were totally misleading and essentially useless in my case.

As it turned out, the problem was with one of my matrix cells being setup to navigate to another report and pass parameters based on the value of the associated matrix group.

Specifically, my result-set included a value that was an Oracle RAW(16) (i.e. a Guid) which in reporting services was treated as a byte[], which is all fine, except that trying to pass the byte[] as the parameter to the navigated report was causing the report to fail to render.

It doesn't make much sense to me, but it is 100% true since if I cast the RAW to a VARCHAR16 in the oracle proc then all is well. If anything, I would have expected to get an error when the cell was clicked and so the byte[] value was being passed as a parameter but no, the entire top-level report just failed to render with less-than-helpfull error messages...

It's a good thing I get paid by the hour ;-).

Has anyone ever resolved this? I am getting the same error, with a similar call stack, but intermitently - there are a number of reports for which it sometimes occurs and sometimes does not. I don't think it is the same problem as csrking's above, as some reports have navigation defined, some don't, and some have parameters but others don't.

It's happening on reports with both both SQL and SSAS data sources, if that makes any difference to anything.

I'm tearing my hair out over this!!

We found we were getting exactly the same message after upgrading to SQLServer 2005 for a report with one subreport which had previously worked fine in SQLServer 2000 version of Reporting Services. The problem was more confusing because other reports with subreports were still working OK.

Anyway, we then applied SP1 to the SQLServer server and to our client components on our developer PCs and this report would now render happily within VisualStudio 2005 but still did not render (and gave the same error message) in the report manager and/or on our intranet. What we had forgotten to do was update the ReportsServer server to SP1 as well. Once we did that (and we did no other change to either the environment or to the report design) suddenly all worked fine.

I hope this fix may help for all you other posters.

    |||SOLUTION:
The SP1 actually does not solve the problem. At least not in my case. The original problem described here is this one: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917070There is Post SP1 hotfix package for SQL2k5 as well as reporting services. It can found here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918222/. After installing hotfixes and rebooting my problem was solved.BolffX|||
