analysis services

Hello.....

Anyone could help me? I found a difficulties to view the mining result(tree) from analysis services 2000 in my vb 6 application form. I've tried to view the tree by using DMbrowser in vb6 so please help me with some code lines.

Thanx a lot

Take a look at the included source code in this download for the DMSample app (it's written in VB and it launches the viewers from the app): http://www.sqlserverdatamining.com/DMCommunity/Downloads/Links_LinkRedirector.aspx?id=85

Note that the AS2000 license does not give you the ability to redistributable the viewers as part of your application.

Analysis of a 400GB database after SQL server restarts takes forever (or maybe hang)

Hello there,

We have a database used by a thrid party application that is 400GB in size. After the server gave some warnings, we restarted the machine and SQL server is doing an analysis on the database so it can be recovered. The recovery analysis of the 400GB database has been run for 3 days and only 7% complete. I doubt it'll ever finish. Because this recovery analysis is a background process which I can not kill, I can not drop the database either because it places an exclusive lock on the database when SQL server is doing analysis. We're using SQL server 2000 enterprise edition, sp3. Now I think that we probably should not have such a big database in the first place. Right now, I just want to stop the analysis if I can so I can either truncate the tables in that 400GB or drop the database completely. Not sure if start sql server in cmd with single user mode can do or not. Any suggestions are appreciated.

thanks,

-Jessie

if the database is not important and you do have a copy of it backed up, you can terminate sqlserver service; start a new session in console mode and drop the database.

e.g.

sqlservr.exe -c -f -m

|||

Thanks OJ for your reply! This database is important but we can't afford every time the server restarts, it takes 1 day to only recover 3% of this db. That "-f" stops the recovery of the user databases. But when I tried to run "use 400GBdb", it gave me this error:Server: Msg 913, Level 16, State 4, Line 1
Could not find database ID 12. Database may not be activated yet or may be in transition.

I'll first back the data/log files to tape before I drop the db. But are you sure I can drop the db even the system can not find the dbid?

-Jessie

|||

Jessie,

You can start sqlserver without doing any recovery of any user databases.

e.g.

sqlservr.exe -s"your_instance" -f -m

then connect to the instance and drop the database

drop database "your_db"

|||

Thanks OJ! Yes, using -f can stop recovery of user database. But because user db is not recovered, they are not accessible. You'll get:dbid not found error. I rebooted the SQL serve twice and both recovery of the 400GB hung when the recovery is 99% complete. From SQL server error log: The Scheduler 3 appears to be hung. SPID 17, ECID 0, UMS Context 0x03716938. I guess 400 GB is beyong SQL server 2000 limit.

What I did is that I stopped the SQL server, delete the log file and restarted the SQL server. Then the db is marked as suspect and I deleted the db.

Looks like something is wrong with the installation on your machine.

You can try and re-install Analysis Services on you machine. Please make sure you backup all your databases before doing so.

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

Hi,

I am using ASP.NET 2.0 application to fetch data from a SQL server 2005 using stroed proc.

Stored proc is also using one table from Linked Server (SQL 2000). Linked Server is configured to use login's current security context.

I am getting the following error message

Is it intermittent or consistent?

1. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

This looks like a consistent issue. It normally means that you need to configuration IIS account to access SQL Server. You can take a look at this link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247931/en-us.

2. TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

This normally is an intermittent issue. It happens when you enable connection pooling and server closes the connection for reason like connection clean up, restart, network failure, the ASP.NET( sqlclient ) use dead connection from the pool to write data and thus get the failure you see. Re-retry connection should solve the issue.

|||

Hi Nan,

Re: 1. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

IIS is configured properly to access data from SQL Server and it is working fine when IIS & SQL are on the same box. But the above message comes only when the stored proc tries to access data from a 2nd SQL Server (linked server which is not on the same box as IIS). Somehow it is not passing the credential to the 2nd SQL Server. 2nd SQL server is linked using login's current security context. Also ASP.NET 2 web.config file says <identity impersonate="true" />. I am using NT domain right now. Is this issue of "Double hop"?

Re: 2. TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Is connection pooling is by default? Can we change so that it should not use it?

Thanks

An error occurred during local report processing.

Occasionally when we are running reports in our web application we are
getting this error. It seems random and occurs even if a report has
just been run with the same criteria. Sometimes the error occurs a
couple of times in a row and then it will run after that fine.

Sounds like on occasion there is an issue with the cached data for the
report. If you are caching the report data, I would suggest removing
the cache data setting. Also, you might want to delete the rdl.data
file in the interim. Hope this helps.

Thanks Enrique. I was starting to suspect it was something to do with
caching. Do you know how I can remove the cache data setting? I did a
search for rdl.data files on the server and it couldn't find any.|||I've managed to fix it by stopping stopping the W3SVC (WWW Publisher

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server

Hi I have just reinstalled .Net and SqlServer2005. I am running my application from local machine and sqlserver is also install local machine. but when I run application. Get follwing Error MessageSad

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

What was the application trying to do when you got this message? It may be that the connection string is not correct, it may be that the server is setup for only windows authentication.

|||

Hi

From your description, it seems that you met error when you are trying to connect to your SQLServer,right?

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

For this kind of issue, we should use the following steps to diagnose the problem.

First, you also should make sure that if 1433 port has been enabled on your server, which is the default port for SQLServer remote connections.

Generally, you can try the following ways to handle your problem.

1. Enable remote connections for SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
2. Enable the SQL Server Browser service
3. Create exceptions in Windows Firewall
4. Create an exception for SQL Server 2005 in Windows Firewall
5. Create an exception for the SQL Server Browser service in Windows Firewall

More details for each step, you may see the following link:

Thanks.

Error you get is all about the connection to your SQL Server instance.
I wish you'd share the Connection String with us. Then it would be easier to
track the path.
Ensure you enter the right info to the Server property in your Connection
String. If your SQL Server instance is a Named instance then you should
enter this info as "ServerName\NamedInstance", if it's a Default Instance
then only the ServerName would be enough.
Is this your server, or a server of a hosting company? If it's yours and
ensure that you set the Firewall settings of the Windows Server to allow the
port that your SQL Server instance uses. And ensure you enabled TCP protocol
and configured it well. Ensure you use a static port for this purpose (if
it's a Default Instance then it'll be using 1433 static port, if it's a
Named Instance then it'll be using a Dynamic Port by default)

An error has occurred on the computer running IIS

Hi, i was following the tutorial in SQL Mobile Books online "Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile ", but when i try to run the application using the pocket PC 2003 emulator, the got the following error, "An error has occurred on the computer running IIS, Try restarting the IIS server.", any idea why?

Check to see if the IIS URL is missing double quotes in your application. Compare with an example in Books Online.

Thank you!

thanks for your reply Syed..

I have checked the IIS URL and it has double quotes. one thing my application is different from the tutorial sample is, on the tutorial

repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.NTAuthentication;

but in my application,

repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.DBAuthentication;

repl.PublisherLogin = @."sa";

repl.PublisherPassword = @."<admin1234admin>";

repl.Publication = @."SQLMobile";

repl.Subscriber = @."SQLMobile";

repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @."Data Source='" + filename + "';Password='';Max Database Size='128';Default Lock Escalation ='100';";

because i am using SQL Server Authentication rather than DBAuthentication used in the sample. would this have made the impact?

|||

Check to see if Pocket IE on the emulator is able to browse the IIS URL. Also you may want to generate a server agent log on IIS as described in

SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Books Online topic :"Enabling Logging by Using SQL Server Mobile Server Agent."

Thank you!

Hi Syed,

I followed the tutorial, couldn't connect to IIS URL from the emulator. I am testing this on my standalone PC with local IIS. Can you suggest me what needs to be checked.

Dear FeiH,

I also have the same error as u already faced, like An error has occurred on the computer running IIS , could u solve this pbm, then pls give a good suggestion, pls help me.

sorry Jeyaseelan,

whatever i've tried didn't work for me and I haven't investigated on it since.

|||How are you connecting to the IIS machine, are you using anonymous authentication or basic/integrated authentication.|||

hi , Udaya

This error happens when the device is not able to get conne ted with the IIS. Before running the program just open IE and try browsing some websites. If that is ok , try entering the SQL CE Server agent URL .

If you are using the RDA tutorial , the link will be something like :

http://121.247.150.xxx/yourvirtuladirectory/sqlcesa30.dll

If your IIS is configured properly you can see a simple webpage with a text message

SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0 .

|||

Hi Every Body

I have been having a tough time with Configuring IIS.

My IIS is Configured Properly and it Shows the Text Message on the URl

"SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0"

But Still in the Every Last Step it says "Unable To Connect to Computer Running IIS".

Me Using My Local Machine.

- I have Tried Using Anonyous Acess.

- Tried to user the IUSR_[MAchineName]

But None Worked for me.

IF any one can Help.

Regards

Adnan.

an easy question....

I have to connect to a SQL server 2000 database from a VB6 application that runs on a different PC....
PC name = FR_SERVER
SQL server name = FR_SERVER
file name = SQLlab_data.mdf
database name=SQLlab

thank you
Degia

Missing question:
I tried different connectionStrings, but I get a lot of different errors....

|||Try http://www.connectionstrings.com/.|||

Hi degia,

What are the exact connection strings and the corresponding errors messages that you're seeing? Also, have you checked the firewall settings on your server? These KB articles may be of some assistance for configuring the firewall:

An attempt to attach an auto-named database failed

I have a problem with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express,
My web application runs fine on my development PC, but when I copy it to my
server (My server is running Windows 2000 Server) and try to access it from
the web I get following error:
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file
C:\Inetpub\okbehappy.net\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf failed. A database with the
same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC
share.
The ASPNET account has full control of the database.
Is this a known bug in Microsoft SQL Server?
What should I do?
Thanks for your help in advance,
Noah.Noah
How do you perform an attach operation?

located in the same directory as your application on the server. The other
common cause for this is having the database open in the IDE or having the
database files with no write permissions for the ASPNET account. There is

Read, Write, Modify, etc.
I thought that was the problem, but it isn't. I had already given the ASPNET
account full control when I had problems with a hit counter. That took me two
days to figure out...
Anyway,
With the info you have now what do you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Noah.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Noah.

How do you perform an attach operation?
