Analysis Services 2000 Tutorial

Has anyone tried the Quick Start tutorial?
I went through each of the steps and when I went to browse the data in the
Sales cube, I got the following error message:
Unable to browse the cube 'Sales'.
Unspecified error.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Try to apply service pack for Analysis Services. That works for me.

Analysis Services 2000 Error - OlapObjects

Good day

I'm having trouble registering an AS 2000 server. The following is the error I receive:

"The cube 'OlapObjects' does not exist, or it is not processed"

Both servers have Service Pack 4 installed.

What does this mean? Google is not much help either.

You might need to post the exact step you are performing. Registering a server in Analysis Manager does not try to access any cubes so this error does not make sense. And OlapObjects is the name of the table in the OLAP repository for AS2000, but you should NEVER access that directly.

Are you talking about a writeback cube? In that case just disable it in the role the user belongs to.

|||Nope - just read for any dimension. I have tried all combinations and end up giving all access to the cube for them to be able to read the data.

|||I am not sure I understand what you mean by security features with roles and such in AS.
I set up a role and gave them read access to the dimensions. This was not enough. I gave them read access to everything and they still couldn't view the data. Once I granted full administrator rights to the cube they could read the data.

I am trying to work through the tutorial when you load SQL 2005. I am running the 64 bit version. I have deployed my cube and am trying to display data in the browser. I move over the sales amount into the data area I get the below message. What should I do to fix this issue?

The query could not be processed:

Memory error: While attempting to store a string, a string was found that was larger than the page size selected. The operation cannot be completed.

Please read this thread - there is plenty of feedback from the product team.
It is a bug in CTP16 that is fixed in RTM. If you are TAP customer - you can
get CTP16 hotfix for it.

analysis service package question

I'm working on a new analysis package using VS 2005, I am able to create the package and cube, etc, but when I go to the Calculation tab for the cube I'm getting the following error message "Unexpected Error occurred: 'Error in application' "

now I uninstalled and reinstalled VS .NET 05 twice, and even uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server on my box and I'm still getting the error message.

What is causing this error and how can I fix it?

Analysis Service on 2005

I'm trying to create a Cube on analysis services, but do not see any
realtions in the diagram between my selected tables. The tables use indexes
rather than primary keys. Do you have any suggestions about how I can specify
the relations from Analysis Services.
Thanksdo you talk about the DSV (data source view) schema?
the system can detect relationships based on column names, you have an
option which allow you to change the way visual studio will detect the
relationship between the tables.
but this works BEFORE you add tables in the DSV
after this you have to manually create the links in the DSV. (its a simple
drag&drop)

I was doing the microsoft example about cube to setup DSN SOURCE CONNECTION to ACCESS database (food mart) when i do a test it works

but after i do design storage and go to Process the cube
it gives me error

'test connection failed because of an error in initializing provide
(microsoft) ODBC DRIVER manager data source name not found and no default driver specified

one more error found

Analysis server cube Performance through Excel 2007

Hello Everybody

I am accessing Analysis server cube -2005 through Excel 2007 for building reports. When ever i select a row or column right click and select Filter > Hide Selected Items, it will show "running query on the OLAP server" at bottom and will not respond after that.

Ran the MDX generated by Excel 2007 directly on analysis server, even then also it takes lot of time and finally it doesnt respond. I read in the forum that the sql generated by Excel 2007 is different. how can i tweak in so that cube performance improves ?

Hi Kiran,

Do you have old AS 2000 to compare performance? The reason I am asking this because you can check if you have same aggregation setup in AS 2005 cube. If you don't have old cube to compare try creating aggregation on AS 2005 cube. Also you can check profiler, performance counter etc.

Okay this may be a bug. Can anyone please point me to a link how do I

i have to create a cube in analysis manager in sql server 2000.as i want to see the data according to my organisation levels.

organisation level:

1.Business unit

2.Team manager

3.Sales manager.

and also i create the three user respectively and assign all user has adminstrator category in user accounts of windows XP.

after create the user and design the manage role to restrict the levels which i have create the dimension.after login which i have to create the user i can see all levels of data.

so pls solution for see data which i have to restrict the dimenssion only..

table.
That tables are daily truncated an new data records are imported with dts
jobs.
Now I build a view on sqlserver 2000 with that tables joined another.
Than I build an analysis manager my cube based on that view. My 20
dimensions I created in that cube directly (new dimension) also based every
one on that sqlserver 2000 view.
Now my questions:
1. is there a better way to create my cube and dimensions?
2. what must I with my cube and dimensions do that on the next day my new
records are also in the cube?

Analysis manager cube processing error

I am trying to process a cube and during processing I get a message that " Data source provider error :[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified..." I set up my data connections and everything else as it appeared in the tutorial. I am running XP Professional and MS Server 2000.To validate your connection create a file on your desktop with UDL extension. Double-click on it and fill in the blanks. Once done, - rename the file to .TXT and open it in notepad. Modify as needed and use it.|||I did all this and still I don't get the cubes to process. Do I need to rename the file to UDL after everything? When I process now I get the message "Data Source Provider Error:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed;IM006..." What should the provider name be in the UDL file? Mine says MSDASQL.1|||As an example, here is what I have in notepad after I create a connection:
