Analysis Server database stop responding...

Hi, everyone, I'm new in SSAS... Yesterday I mapped a new hierachy to a perspective and then the database died... I tried to connect to it in Visual Studio and open it in Management Studio, however, neither responsed, then the delay notification appeared... Database engine and analysis service are alright, the tables are quite small (less then 50MB).

Dose anyone have ideas about this? Thanks a lot.

The version of my SQL Server is 9.00.2047.00, runs on Windows 2003 Server SP1.

Suspect your data got corrupted somehow.

Try stopping Analysis Server. Delete files from the database folder in the Analysis Server data folder.

Then start the server again and try re-deploying the project again.

Ed:

Thanks for your reply. I think I've found the reason. This is not caused by my modifications on the SSAS db, one of our databases grew too fast and makes the server running slowly, our DBA has solved this problem.

Analysis Server Database has errors. Cant delete, can't view

I tried to import a abf file in my Analysis Services using the wizard. It didn't succeed completely as I ran out of disk space. However it left my AS database in inconsistent state. I can't view anything. Can't delete anything. The entire AS is unusable at the moment. I get the following error.

"Errors in metadata manager. The dimension with ID of v_Contract, Name of Contract referenced by 'GPC GL Cube' does not exist......"

Please let me know how to restore my AS so that I can retry importing the database.

Thanks,

Ashish

I was able to remove the database. I had to stop the AS and delete the physical folders. Then restarted the AS and I was able to delete the Databases.

Hope this helps someone else because I spent some time trying to figure this out.

Analysis server cube Performance through Excel 2007

Hello Everybody

I am accessing Analysis server cube -2005 through Excel 2007 for building reports. When ever i select a row or column right click and select Filter > Hide Selected Items, it will show "running query on the OLAP server" at bottom and will not respond after that.

Ran the MDX generated by Excel 2007 directly on analysis server, even then also it takes lot of time and finally it doesnt respond. I read in the forum that the sql generated by Excel 2007 is different. how can i tweak in so that cube performance improves ?

Thanks
Kiran

Hi Kiran,

Do you have old AS 2000 to compare performance? The reason I am asking this because you can check if you have same aggregation setup in AS 2005 cube. If you don't have old cube to compare try creating aggregation on AS 2005 cube. Also you can check profiler, performance counter etc.

Analysis Server 90, Performance Counters

Hi,
I have installed SQL Server 2005. Now, in the system performance viewer
I can see some new performance counters added. But I am not able to see
any performance counter related to "Anlysis Server 90".
Is "Anlysis Server 90" is the new performance object and how to get
that in the sysperfmon?
If anybody knows about it, please let me know ASAP.
Thanks and Regards,
Pramod.I believe the performance objects all start with "MSAS 2005".|||Thanks Kevin,
Yes, all the performance counters for Analysis Server starts with MSAS
2005.
Can you tell me more about Notification Services (NS). How to access
performance counters of the Notification Services? If you can please
visit the following link,
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172479.aspx
It shows the way to access the performance counters of NS, but I am not
able to see the same on the SysPerf Monitor.
Is there any service or component that is required to be installed to
get the same? I have installed NS from the component setup.
Thanks again Kevin for the information.
Let me know if you have any information about NS.
Regards,
Pramod|||You need to use NSCONTROL.exe to register the instance which will
install the performance counter objects. Check "NSCONTROL Register
Command" in BOL.
Kevin|||Thanks, Kevin.
I got the performance objects for NS also

Analysis Server 2005 to create new data sources for new database

I am working with SQL Server Analysis server 2005 beta 2 (CPT MAY). I was trying to add a new database. I followed the same step like Analysis server 2000. Where I create the new database and select the data soruces tree node for chosing the new data source. However, after creating the database in analysis server 2005, I can see Data Sources Tree node but when I right click and look for new data source property, it is not there. I can only see the Refresh property.
So I am just wandering is it my installation or configuration problem or is there other way to add new data source to a brand new database.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.Niaz, did you get an answer to this? In SQL2k, the administration and development functions were combined in one UI - Analysis Manager. In SQL 2K5 the development functions have been put in Business Intelligence Development Studio (aka Visual Studio) and the administrative functions in SQL Server Management Studio.

You probably figured this out long ago...
